Court marriage is a civil procedure in which a couple gets married without any religious ceremonies. In India, court marriages are governed by the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The Procedure of court marriage in South West Delhi is as follows:
The couple has to give notice of their intention to marry at least 30 days prior to the date of marriage. This notice has to be given in writing to the Marriage Officer of the district in which at least one of the parties to the marriage has resided for a period of not less than 30 days immediately preceding the date on which such notice is given.
After the notice has been given, the Marriage Officer will publish a list of intended marriages for 15 days. If no objections are received within this period, the Marriage Officer will issue a certificate of no objection.
The couple has to file a declaration along with three witnesses on the day of the marriage. The declaration has to be made in front of the Marriage Officer or any other Gazetted Officer authorized by him/her.
After this, the couple has to sign the register maintained by the Marriage Officer and they will be issued a certificate of marriage.
