Procedure of Court Marriage in Jammu and Kashmir

Gathering The Necessary Documents The first step is to gather all the necessary documents that are required for the court marriage process. These include an affidavit from both groom and bride stating that they have attained 18 years of age, birth certificates of both parties, identity proofs such as Aadhar card or passport, residence proof such as ration card or electricity bill, passport size photographs of both parties, and a copy of divorce deed (if applicable). All these documents will be required at the time of registration.

Applying For Registration Once all the documents are ready, both parties should apply for registration at their local Marriage Registrar's office near them. The application form is available online on the official website of Jammu & Kashmir government. Once the application is submitted with all the necessary documents attached, a date will be fixed by the Registrar for further proceedings.

Appearing Before The Marriage Officer Once your date is fixed by the Registrar’s office for further proceedings, both parties must appear before him/her along with two witnesses each on that particular date. During this meeting any queries raised by either party or witnesses will be answered by the registrar himself/herself and post successful completion of it; 30 days notice period will be issued during which any objections raised against such marriage can be made known to them in writing within 30 days period only otherwise no objection shall be entertained after this period expires.
